I have stopped counting the number of Zero’s that constitute Microsoft’s bid to takeover Yahoo. But I sure do know how considerable, a sum, it is. Valuation, Merger, Acquisition, Stocks and such other words are for Finance Guys, who cannot do the simplest of calculations without a computer, and claim to be disciples of Adam Smith (he breathed his last, ages ago; a time when the word ‘computer’ was misspelled, improper English).
More than a year has gone by, hasn’t it? And these ‘high level talks’ are still going on….
I believe Microsoft should,

1. Invest considerable amount of money in Search Engine Research and Development.
Okay! Fine! Accepted! Google is the very first website I visit, whenever I find the need to search for something. But since, even those who propounded the BASICS, described every BYTE in terms of NUMBERS, I believe Search Engine is a result of the combination of Simple Arithmetic and Difficult Geometry. For example, Google may be Five + Five = Ten (Triangle). Microsoft could be 4 + 4 + 2 = 10 (Hexagon), a combination of those numbers that can be divided to the smallest unit. Research and Develop.

2. Create small chunks of diversified websites, concentrated to their niche subject’s.
For example, websites dedicated to Entertainment, Art, Music, Health, Automobiles, Travel, Transport, Economy, Governance, Politics, etc. These are the issues that not only affect but also have considerable impact in evolving the social structure of society. For example, Paris Hilton may be of no use to a 9-5 office goer, but it has helped businessmen make their millions through Advertising, revolving around new-age publicity. Whereas, Politics and Governance has it’s repercussions to the roots of any country. The word ‘Right to Information’ sounds like a privilege but ‘Access to Information’ is what needs to be put in place. Create.
Even if Microsoft goes ahead and persuades Yahoo to give in, it’ll be a daunting task to merge these two organizations, as the array of their individual, yet similar services, would bump each other. Management level egoism (a human trait, nothing elite) would take a similar toll, alike any other organization.
Solution: Microsoft must use its Money to Research, Develop, Create, Publicize and Evolve.
